The blanking process allows users to create shapes in sheet material by applying a custom designed punch and die. Blanking forces the custom punch tool through the sheet and into a mating die. Customers have the option of ordering blanking tooling and blanked parts separately. After tooling costs, blanking has low production cost. Most sheet metals are compatible with blanking although very hard metals become more difficult. Alternative machines include Turret Punch, Laser Cutting or for lower quantity, milling. Also worth noting: blanked edges will have a slight rounding on the topside and a slight burr on the bottom side.
