Brass Alloys
Automobile Fuel Jet - Brass 360
Two of the most common brass alloys are listed below.
Brass 260 is the standard for use in electrical connectors. It has the best formability of all the brasses and fair electrical conductivity. Brass 260 is often used for springs, clips, rivets, lamp sockets, eyelets, and wire screens. Brass 260 has fair corrosion resistance and machinability and cannot be heat treated.
Brass 360, often referred to as free-machining brass, is the standard by which all other machinable metals are measured. Brass 360 is commonly used for high-speed machining such as drilling, milling, and tapping because of its excellent machinability. The lead contact of 360 prevents welding. Brass 360 is corrosion resistant and has a smooth finish that readily accepts plating. Brass 360 cannot be heat treated.
