3D Drawing

Comments to Machinist

Comments to Machinist (CTM) are text and lines used to communicate special instructions to the machinist. You can use Comments To Machinist to specify 3D shapes not yet supported by the CAD software. For example, see the red lines below:

ctm-3d

Following are some uses for Comments To Machinist:
  • Holes and other features at angles other than 90 deg. Draw the feature in a head-on and a side view (as in the example above) referring to each other with text such as "See B in Left view".
  • Countersinking for 2D parts (for 3D parts see Designing 3D parts)
  • Chamfered or rounded edges applied to only part of a contour
  • Omission of a groove or edge effect at a certain location
  • Features that require four axis milling

Use CAD features to accomplish shapes whenever possible before using Comments to Machinist.

Also see Comments to machinist.
