Example Approaches
The following simple shapes are listed along with the general steps to create the shape. These examples can be used as a reference by finding the shape closest to what you need, or to learn how to apply the 3D design capabilities. The machines selected in the examples are illustrative. For example, laser could be replaced by waterjet or any of the other 2D processes.
Flat washer
Draw OD circle. Line | Machine | Laser. Set Z to washer thickness. Draw ID circle. Set Z to Air Inside.
Short pipe with holes
Draw OD circle. Line | Machine | Lathe. Set Z to pipe length. Draw ID circle. Set Z to Air Inside. In side views add holes and cutouts.
Five side box
Draw a rectangle. Line | Machine | Mill. Set Z to the box height. Line | Corners | Round. Line | Contour | Inner, use wall thickness. Set Z to inside depth (less than box height). Add holes and cutouts in side views.
Gear with Hub
Use Gear Wizard. Set Z to gear thickness. Add hub circle. Set Z to thickness of hub.
L Bracket
Draw a rectangle. Line | Machine | Laser. Draw a straight line across the center of the rectangle. Line | Machine | Bend.
Pulley
Draw a circle. Line | Machine | Lathe. Set Z to thickness of pulley. View | Front. In area to right of center line, draw half of the cross section. Set Z to Revolve.
Clamp style shaft support with retaining screw
Draw a rectangle. Line | Machine | Mill. Set Z to thickness of shaft support. Near the center of the rectangle draw a circle for the shaft. Draw a thin rectangle that extends from inside the circle across past the right edge of the rectangle. Line | Select All. Line | Intersect. Delete line segments leaving the clamp shape. View | Top. Draw circle for the tightening screw. Set Z appropriately. Line | Thread - enter desired thread settings. Draw a circle concentric to the thread circle but slightly larger and set Z to depth of slot so that the screw hole is unthreaded up to the slot and is threaded below the slot.
