Intersecting

Intersecting
The intersection feature is an essential and powerful tool for making lines meet
and creating various shapes.
| The Intersect command is a critical tool for
drawing and is used in almost any design. |
For example, you could create a "D" shape by drawing a vertical line through
a circle; applying the intersect command; and deleting the line segments external
to the "D" shape.

Intersecting lines are lines that cross each other. The Intersect command divides
lines into two or more parts where they cross other lines. For example, if you apply
the Intersect command to lines in the shape of an "X", the two lines will become
four lines.
To intersect lines:
- Select two or more lines to
be intersected.
- Choose Line | Intersect.
- Select and delete any unwanted line segments to achieve the desired
shape.
You can segment one line at the points where other lines intersect it. For example,
if you select a straight line crossing a circle
the Intersect command will divide the straight line
into 3 parts. The circle line will be unaffected.
To segment one line based on intersecting lines:
- Select the line you want to
divide into segments.
- Choose Line | Intersect.
- Delete any unwanted line segments to achieve the desired shape.
Intersect command combines a number of different commands available in other
applications: Trim, Break etc.
For example, to draw a Popsicle stick you can draw a rectangle with circles at
both ends of the rectangle and apply the Intersect command and delete the unneeded
segments.

To draw a simple cross you can draw two rectangles intersecting each other at
90 degrees and apply the Intersect command and delete unneeded segments.

To draw a flower shape you can draw a large circle and several smaller ones overlapping
and apply Intersect command and delete unneeded segments.

To draw a heart you can draw two similar circles tangent and two lines tangent
to each of this these circles going from one point and apply the Intersect command
and delete unneeded segments.

Learn to use the Intersect command - you'll save significant time making the
shapes you need.
