Choosing Materials for Manufacturing

Choosing the right material for a part or product is an important decision. Most materials usually start as sheet, plate, or rod stock. Some of the basic criteria range from strength, corrosion resistance, weight, durability, and coeffecient of friction to name a few.  The shape and complexity of the product or part design is also important.  For example, the material and manufacturing process for creating a housing for a hand held electronic device will be quite different from that of an enclosure for a breaker box.
