Sheet Metal Fabrication
Sun, 10 Feb 2008
Sheet metal fabrication is a process of producing a metal components by modifying a raw piece of material. Fabrication often includes cutting, forming and finishing.
Sheet metal can be cut by laser cutting, waterjet cutting, wire EDM, turren punching, blanking and other processes.
Forming alters the form of the flat sheet by distorting the material and can include bending, rolling (shaping sheet metal
using rollers) and drawing (material is forced into a die with a punch to
form a cup-like shape).
In the final step the surface is treated using either or both mechanical and/or electrochemical processes. Mechanical finishes include brushing, sanding, tumbling, polsihing and vibratory finishing. Additinal options including powder coating and painting.
Sheet metal fabrication create a wide variety of products components including metal cabinets, enclosures, ventilation shafts, hoods, exhaust systems, tanks, and numerous mechanisms. Metal fabrication is used in food dispensing, food storage, communications, automotive, computer, medical, electronics, aerospace, telecommunication, pharmaceutical and and construction to name a few industires.
