Repeating
You can duplicate a line or group of lines simultaneously nudging or rotating
the copies.
To repeat a line or group of lines:
- Select a line or a group.
- Choose Edit | Copy.
- Choose Edit | Paste.
- Choose Edit | Nudge. (For repeating
rotation choose Line | Rotation by dragging
before nudging.)
- Choose Line | Repeat, Line | Repeat, ...
Repeat remembers the last nudge direction and distance.
Making repeated patterns
A Repeated pattern is a set of evenly spaced shapes. You can create any type
of repeated pattern. For example, you might need to create a matrix or a circle
of circles.
To create a 10 by 10 matrix of holes:
- Set Edit | Preferences | 2D | Nudge Step
to the desired spacing of the holes.
- Create the upper left circle.
- Choose Edit | Copy then
Edit | Paste then press the RIGHT arrow
key.
- Choose Line | Repeat eight times.
- Select
the first row of circles.
- Choose Edit | Copy then
Edit | Paste then press the DOWN arrow
key.
- Choose Line | Repeat eight times.
To create 10 small circles in a larger circular
pattern:
- In Edit | Preferences | 2D | Rotation Snap
Angle , enter 36.
- Draw a large temporary circle.
- Draw the first small circle.
- Turn on Snap to Lines .
- Choose Line | Rotation by dragging.
- Drag the center of rotation to the center of the large circle.
- Choose Edit | Copy ,
Edit | Paste and press the "R" key. Repeat 9 times.
- Select and delete the large circle.
or
- Draw a large temporary circle.
- Choose Line | Divide and enter 10.
- Draw the first small circle.
- Choose Edit | Copy.
- Choose Edit | Paste and repeat 9
times.
- Turn on Snap to Lines .
- Move each small circle into position.
- Select and delete the large circle line segments.
To create 10 irregular objects in a larger circular
pattern:
- In Edit | Preferences | 2D | Rotation Snap
Angle , enter 36.
- Draw a large temporary circle.
- Draw the first irregular object.
- Select the irregular object and choose Line
| Group .
- Turn on Snap to Lines .
- Choose Line | Rotation by dragging.
- Drag the center of rotation to the center of the large circle.
- Choose Edit | Copy ,
Edit | Paste and press the "R" key. Repeat 9 times.
- Select and delete the large circle.
