Silk Screening
Silk screening applied to sheet metal bracket
The Silk Screen machine is used to add graphics to your parts. Silk
screening is a method of stencil printing in which ink is forced
through a stretched silk mesh. Inks can be in one or more colors.
Screenprinting
inks can be used to work with a variety of materials, such as textiles,
ceramics, metal, wood, paper, glass, and plastic. As a result, screen
printing is used in many different industries.
Silk screening is usually applied to flat surfaces such as:
Silk screening requires a custom screen tool containing the desired text or pattern.
Cost reduction options include:
- avoiding very small details
- minimizing the number of colors
- minimizing the print area
Silk Screening Design Considerations
For silk screening we recommend one of the following bases:
- Matte powder coat
- Anodized aluminum with fine brushing
- Injection molding with matte finish
Capital letter sizes at least 0.1 inch high are recommended.
For parts that are not flat sheets silk screening must be done on the highest flat surface - for example the top surface of a cube.
