Steel ball driven binary counter

This device is a steel ball driven binary counter. It is an artistic conversation piece for a coffee table and an educational tool to show how computers count in base two. Each flip-flop has only two components, perhaps making it the simplest digital flip flop. The four flip-flop pointers each point to 1 or 0. Employing a see-saw clock, the digital mechanism is operated by tilting the platform back and forth on its roller feet. With 4 bits the counter has 16 states from 0000 to 1111 or 0 to 15. It's made of aluminum and is powder coated in textured black and metalic blue. Click on image to enlarge. See video below. Inspired by Matthias Wandel's clever wooden contraptions. Requires minor assembly. 17 x 5 x 2". 1 lb.
