The eMachineShop software follows standard Windows conventions and terms.
If you are not experienced with Windows software,
it is recommended to first read one of the many books available since this help
documentation assumes you are familiar with such things as:
Dragging objects on the screen using your mouse
Common commands like Undo and Redo
Use of menus, toolbars, and status bars
Right clicking on items
Etc.
Screen Layout
This section describes the standard areas of the application screen.
Main Menu
Located at the top of the application window, the Main Menu is displayed as a
line of commands File...
Help. When clicked, each command opens a dropdown menu from which a command
selection can be made.
Toolbars
The toolbars are located near the top of the application screen and along the
left edge. The toolbars provide buttons for frequently used commands. To activate
a command, click the corresponding button. To display a short description of any
button, hold the mouse cursor over the button for a moment.
File Menu
The file menu contains command used to work with files stored on your disk. You
can use the File commands to create, open, reopen, save, import, export and revert
files. For example, you might need to import the design you have created in other
CAD application.
New - creates new drawings for each new part to be
fabricated. New files are untitled. To specify a file name choose
File | Save.
Save
- stores your design to your disk. You should save your work periodically.
Rename
- changes the name of the current file.
Open - opens a drawing file stored on disk.
Reopen -
Opens a recently used file.
Import - Imports drawing data from another format.
Click here.
Export - Exports drawing data to another format.
Click here.
Revert - Undoes changes made to a File since the last Save or since you last
exited the application.
Print - Prints your drawing to paper. For print
troubleshooting click here .
Choose whether you want the printout to fill the page or to print actual
size.
Choose whether you want to print the comments.
Choose whether you want the printout to be centered on the page.
Press the Printer Setup button if you want
to choose a specific printer or change printer settings.
Choose the number of copies you want to print.
Choose paper size, margins and orientation of the output.
Choose what you want to print at the header/footer of the printout.
Exit - Closes the application.
Edit Menu
Undo - Undoes the last change(s) to your drawing.
Redo - Undoes an Undo.
Cut - Removes a selected line(s) and places it
on the clipboard.
The term dragging is used in this documentation to refer to the process
of moving screen items using your mouse. For example you can drag lines in drawings.
To drag a line:
Point the mouse cursor to the line to be moved.
In some cases you will first need to click and release the left
mouse button to
select the item.
Click the left mouse button again but don't release the button.
Move the mouse to the desired location.
Release the mouse button.
To drag a line to a location outside the current viewable area, drag
the item near the appropriate edge and wait for a moment. The viewing area will
scroll in the appropriate direction. When the desired position is reached move away
from the edge and position the item.
