Tue Nov 22, 2011 12:38 pm Holes Drilled on two part design
I'm trying to design a mounting bracket for a PVC storage tube, but I'm having difficulties trying to get the mount holes on the design.
Basically, on the attached desgin I need a 1/4 inch hole drilled through all three side tabs on each side. The lowest hole near the bottom does not need to line up exactly with the other two, but the holes on the two upper tabs should line up perfectly.
I split the top and the bottom piece, but the price difference was nearly double. After adding the holes, both the top and the bottom piece doubled in price again.
Are holes really that expensive? Any thoughts on how to accomplish this while keeping the price down?
The reason the price changes is because the job goes from 2D to 3D when you have multiple views. For a couple of simple holes like this you could try using Comments To Machinist for the holes.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to redesign the saddle and go with a u-bolt for the top part to help keep the cost down.
Any suggestions on what size hole is recommended to get a snug fit on a 3/8"-16 thread U-bolt?

Snugness is in the mind of the snugger so to speak but generally one uses a 3/8 hole for a 3/8 bolt since a 3/8 bolt is slightly less than 3/8.
