Machining slots in pipe

I am trying to machine several slots into the wall of a small piece of metal pipe, running around the diameter of the pipe. The slot must have rounded ends.

If I place it too far off center on one of the side views, the rounded ends distort into ellipses. I also notice that I cannot get the "box" describing the slot tangent to the pipe if it is not centered on one of the views, so only a portion of the slot gets machined.

Perhaps this is not the way to do this?

Can someone please help me?

My project cannot move forward until I can figure out how to get these slots machined.

What you are describing sounds like 4-axis milling where the pipe would be turned while the milling takes place to keep the endmill perpendicular to the round surface. eMachineShop CAD is currently limited to 3-axis. I'm not clear on the "box" issue.
