Milled line across the entire length of the material

I am trying to build a heat sink and am having a problem milling the fins.

I have a small piece of aluminum that I need to cut grooves entire length of the material. to do this I created a narrow rectangle the length of the material, but I get this error:

"Error: The selected line must be inside the outermost light color boundary line (created from other views)."

any help would be greatly appreciated.
