Please see Air Outside. You would be drawing the fingerboard cross section which includes the arc.

Just go into the Front or Right view depending on the orientation, draw a shape something like a D rotated 90 deg and on the numeric bar in the Z control select Air Outside. Then check the 3D view to verify.

i made progress -- was able to make the arc and move it into position to intersect the fingerboard, but im running into snags trying to cut away the uneeded portions.
i cant view it in 3d - it says the indicated line is open and overlaps with a closed line.
ive also tried to intersect but it doesnt seem to take, and then i treid to join all lines and select machine but then i got an error message saying "edge settings cannot be edited for the selected lines because slection includes lines generated by another side view. Please select each line separately."
any further thoughts on how to trim this?

this ones a little cleaner, and has a needed recessed narrow notch across the top... i still cant get it to intersect properly. Ifollowed your z axis link you sent to me, and i understand the principal of trying to get the right shape to apply an "air outside", but i cant get the arc and the basic shape to outline properly. hope you can advise, and many thanks!
and happy holidays!

The arc you drew is open. You need to draw lines to close the shape.

took a little trial and error but i got it to work by drawing additional lines tracing over the segments of the original shape, connecting the new lines to the to the arc segment, and then applying the air outside value. If you can, please, confirm the 3d view? there's an odd ridge down the middle of top view, which i think is just a 3D view rendering artifact, but id like to make sure...
thnks!

Your design looks fine to me. I don't see the rendering issue on my setup but try menu Help | Self Test and indicate that the test failed and follow the instructions. Let me know if that helps.
