well I've got the cylinder and I'm trying to make a cutout with an arc. I'm able to draw the arc but when I try and intersect it with the cylinder sides it says the lines dont intersect.

I can make a cut out on the side of the cylinder but I cant make a cutaway at the bottom.

Referring to the second of your posts:
In Right view delete the line.
In Left view set the line to Air Outside and flip the arc to be concave, not convex.
