If i wanted to make a hollow open bottom "rounded top pyramid" shape, how would I draw that?

(Think single knuckle guard)

I'm not clear on the shape. Can you post a pix?

How about something like a garbage can lid?

I too was thinking of a dome shape for creating a fire pit lid (30 inch diameter).

Please see Revolve. That method allows you to model the shape. However something 30" in diameter would be very expensive to machine. You might be better off doing a sheet metal approach with numerous tabs that get bent at the edge and then optionally welded but that does not give a dome shape. An actual domed weld-free can lid is "drawn" which requires expensive tooling.
