How can I control tooth shape for gears? I need to design a sprocket for bicycle chain and would like to easily change the number of teeth.

The gear wizard creates a conventional tooth shape. For other shapes you would need to draw the tooth manually and step and repeat it.

Ok, so I did my sprocket teeth manually but I can't get them to taper. When I try to use the lathe I end up with the taper on a separate disk.

Decrease the diameter of the outer circle to touch the teeth.
Remove the current teeth.
Draw "D" shapes for the gaps between the teeth with Z = Air Inside.

I can't seem to make the teeth cutouts intersect the edge of the piece. I get errors about overlapping lines.

The way I have it drawn now would probably work ok with a note to the machinist but it won't price.

Please see: Sample Shapes - #12. After you redesign the cutouts tangent to the outermost boundary change Z from "Air Inside" to "-7 mm".
