I this case we just need a part cut from a standard sheet steel (6ga) with no surface smoothing or finish required. We could even live with looser tolerances, flatness, etc.
Basically it's just a 2D design with a simple outline and two standard size holes. I could probably cut it out myself with a jigsaw and some files so lowering the cost is the main objective.

Thanks,

You can use band saw and drill for such simple part. Sheet thickness is specified in Job | Material.

That would probably be fine. Those tools are listed as possible tool options. As far as the material is concerned my 'Materials' list states that the thickness grid is not available because the thickness will be specified by the design.

So I'm a little confused. Seems like there needs to be a way to specify tools, tolerances and sheet metal thickness.

Thanks,

Thickness grid is available if you are using sheet machines in your design - saw, laser, water jet etc.

Ah yes, I see how it works now. My fault for not reading enough to see how to specify the machines for each line but now that I did it correctly the sheet thickness shows up in the materials chart just as you stated. I did modify the design for all straight cuts so I could use the simplest tools and it did indeed drop the price considerably. Unfortunately it didn't drop quite enough in this case but I really like the whole concept of eMachineShop and will hopefully be able to use it in the future for more complex requirements.

Thanks for your help,

CNO

Download CAD Software

"In our company we have used many software packages like Auto Cad, Pro E and Solid Work. I have found all of them very complicated. I tried to use them many times but never succeeded. eMachineShop provided the first time I could get a complete design and provided automatic design analysis. The software is really very helpful. Thanks."
