Wed May 13, 2009 12:36 am Radial vanes on a circular wall |

I have a circular wall that is raised 1 inch from a flat surface and .25 inches thick, I want to add supporting vanes at certain points on the interior and exterior of the wall. I want the vanes to be .75 tall and angle at 45 degrees from where they connect to the wall down to the flat surface. I can add the vanes to the wall while in the "top" view, however I can not add an angle in the "top" view. When I switch to the "left" view I cannot even see the vanes. The vanes display correctly in the 3D view, but they are just .75 inch squares protruding from the circular wall like flaps.
How can I add an angle to these squares to make them look like supporting triangular vanes?

I'm not sure I fully understand. Please post your design.

Here is a sample. I would like for the squares connected to the cicular wall to angle from the highest point where they connect to the wall to the furthest point from the wall where they connect to the flat base. Essentially making a triangle to buttress the circular wall.

In the Front and Left views you can create a shape with Z = Air Outside to create the outer triangles. You can't model the inner triangles because they are not machinable with [-- login to view link --] . Nevertheless you can use Comments To Machinist to indicate what you want as we can do some tricks to accomplish the shape.

I think I may have over-simplified the example I posted. In reality there would be many vanes at say every 20 degrees around the circle. The sample I created only had 4 vanes at 90 degree angles which as you stated could be accomplished in the front and left views, however with vanes being placed at non right angles I don't believe the desired effect can be accomplished, can it? Whenever I draw shapes in the front and left views and then I switch to the top view and rotate the image, the shapes drawn in the front and left view remain in their original positions. Is there a way to "attach" the shapes drawn in the front and left view to the top view shape so that everything can be rotated together?

You can't do what you describe but you might try starting with the Revolve feature which would allow you to model the inner and outer triangle slopes and then remove the recessed material from the Top view. But ultimately you will need some Comments To Machinist.
