1. Materials - I need Aluminum 6061 T6 round stock, 2.250" dia. There is no round stock listed in your materials and the flat stock is no greater than 1" thick.
I went ahead and chose the Aluminum at 1" and began drawing the lathe project at 2.250" dia.

2. Next problem: This lathe project is complex. See the attached .dxf file. Since your drawing tools have been changed to "Auto" it is very difficult to draw this part in eMachineShop. You have no tutorials for lathe work using auto nor tutorials for the lathe tool that is no longer accessable in this recent version of eMachineShop.

I imported this complex part into eMachineShop but one of the errors I get is:
Error: The indicated line is open and overlaps with a closed line.
Please remove one of the lines or draw a line to close the gap or extend the lines till they cross. All lines must form closed shapes - there must be no disconnected ends of lines. Gaps larger than 0.001 mm are not permitted. If the problem is not visible select one of the lines and temporarily move it a short distance using the keyboard arrow keys.

eMachineShop wants to make straight lines where I have fins, on the part, that are uniform in diameter around it's circumference.

Please tell me how I can draw this part in eMachineShop, 3D, so that you can build it for us.

1. The CAD software chooses the required stock diameter automatically - just draw your part of required size.
2. Use the Revolve feature for turned parts - [-- login to view link --]

Thank you for the help.
I drew the part on the right side as the link explained. I looked at it in 3D and it was perfect.

Problem: It wouldn't let me put a hole through its center, the full length. I remembered the link info that the project needs to stay away from the center dashed line if you want a hole. I deleted that project.
I redrew the project using a rectangle that was 1/2 the width of what the final hole will be and the length of the entire part (This would become the hole through the center of the part). I redid my math so that when I finished the drawing and removed the rectangle that was the place-holder of the center hole, all of the diameters would be correct.
When the drawing was completed I removed the center hole place-holder, pressed 3D and went through many dialog boxes that eventually joined all of the separate segments into one part. The 2D drawing looked great.
I then pressed the 3D button. The 2D "front" view suddenly became the "top" view and this dialog box popped up:
Error: " [-- login to view link --] " (Front view) and "Auto" (Top view) can't be used in one design. Consider removing one machine from your design or specifying one of the machines using "Comments to Machinest". To find machine lines press the Tab key while watching the status bar. To change a machine assigned to a line choose Line/Machine. To select all lines assigned to a machine select one line and choose Edit/Find.
Please help me to get this project drawn properly because I am becomming discouraged and thinking it would be easier to take my Auto-Cad drawing to a local machine shop.

The space that I left for the hole down the center needed to be filled with a rectangle. When I did that it worked fine.
Thank you for your help.

Download CAD Software

"A friend of mine said that he has tried various CAD programs over the years and none has been sufficiently easy for him the master with the exception of the software from emachineshop.com. He swears by it, and says that for the first time he finds himself going directly to the drawing software rather than pencil and paper."
