Sun Oct 18, 2009 2:05 pm Injection moulding glass and carbon fiber filled plastics? |
|
|
I am interested in finding out if emachineshop can handle injection moulding of glass and fiber filled plastics, in particular, Ticona Celstran Long Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Polyurethane - the handling characteristics of which can be found here http://tools.ticona.com/tools/documents/literature/Celstran_00_315_revi.pdf
I know the process is to submit an order with a special request, but I am at the material selection phase, and need to know what is and isnt possible.

We have molded glass/fiber filled parts before.
About your specific request, please see the note at Special Materials.

So for the part I am designing, I have selected ABS for moulding, which results in machines 770 and 1283 being selected for the best quotes. I assume these are moulding machines of some sort.
It seems that the best linear tolerance for these machines is 0.7mm and a flatness of 0.12mm.
The special material I would like to specify has extremely low shrinkage and warping, and I am wondering if these tolerances are as a result of the mould-making process or of they are a result of the shrinkage and warpage inherent in moulding the ABS material I have selected as being a similar material.
