Sat Oct 24, 2009 10:05 am Adding an asymmetrical facet on a lathe-cut design? |
|
|
|
I am a novice making a small steel part with eMachineShop v1.64. The part is a machined pin about 6 inches in length. The 3-D rendering of the part is, so far, exactly what I want. Now I need to add facets for a crescent wrench hold so the part can be turned. The revolving profile of course can't do this. How do I get the design to shave off facets at 0 and 180 degrees for the wrench?
Thanks for any assistance.
Dan.

Thanks, Tech2.
After considerable fiddling, the part now renders correctly. This is probably an inelegant solution, but I added two "D" shapes, air inside and -7mm, that oppose each other in the top view circle where the back sides of the D's form the parallel surfaces of the wrench hold at the end of the part. I am ready to try the proper way, if anyone can point me in the right technical direction.
Kind regards,
Dan.

You would need to post your design here for further help.

The question is whether the technique used to add a wrench hold is proper for machine instructions. The file should be attached.
Thanks, Dan.
A jpg of the rendering is below:

It's better to draw a rectangle in a side view and set Z to a negative value.
