Wed Dec 09, 2009 4:48 am Admin rights to update? |
|
|
|
Hello, I am struggling to update the software automaticly, it appears it needs to be an admin account to update the price file. I've got about 40 pc's running this software so its not really viabile to go around each one and update it and there is no way I'm going to give the users admin rights.
I did try giving the emachineshop folder write and change permissions but that didn't work either.
I think I can rule the firewall out because it updates automaticly on an admin account.
I don't really see why it should need admin rights to update the price file, the software yes but not the price file!
EDIT: I should say that the pc's are running XP Pro SP3
Can you help?
Cheers.

We expect to resolve this issue in a future release of the software.

Hello, I am still having problems with this. What is the reason for requiring admin rights to fully use the program?
Surely its in your best interests to have a program that is fully functional rather than only half functional on a standard user account.
Thanks.

Has this issue been addressed yet? I do not and can not have adim rights on my workstation. My price file needs to be updated per the software but it cannot do so. Based on this bug report, I assume it is because I do not have admin rights.
Please fix this ASAP.
This bug has rendered this application USELESS to me and my coworkers!!!
Great software but you guys have to fix this update issue - quickly - you're losing business!

No this issue has not been addressed and don't expect it to be. There are lots of programs out there that update fine without needing administrator rights to update.
This is just a case of lazy programming. As you say, they will lose business.
I am in the process of dropping support for this and moving onto a rival.
As you say, great software, just flawed by the people who make it, who I expect are monkeys smashing their fists on a keyboard.

What is the rival software you are moving to? I am about done with emachine shop. I used to use it all the time (read that thousands of dollars spent with them) but now it is worthless to me. PM me if you don't want to post their competition here.

Well it appears private messing is disabled on this forum, and I can only guess that is to stop people slagging off the software. If you leave you email address I will email you.

Can you please then provide us with a date when said new release will be available? I have parts I need to have made. I can use you or someone else, it is completely up to you.

Those suggestions won't work in this case. But yes, I have explored those options.
I want to work with you to resolve this!
It has to be something to do with permissions on the account as it works with the administrator account, the program will automatically download the price file. On a standard user account (limited account) the price file will not download automatically.
That has nothing to do with write permissions on a folder. Even if the emachineshop folder has write permissions, it still wont update on a standard user account (limited account)

Version 1.69 uploaded today allows for use of the CAD with non-admin accounts.
