I have a small part that is design for automotive engine use and I want a prototype part made to insure proper fit before I order a bunch of parts machined from aluminum. But according to the Analyzer one part made from plastic will cost more than aluminum. This can't be correct, can it?

In some cases that can occur. You would need to post your file for more guidance.

The only problem I have with posting my file on a forum is someone stealing my design and making money off of my hard work.

You can post a simplified version - just enough to illustrate the issue.

It's a fairly simple design to start with. What I will do is post only one of the two parts.

The pricing both ways looks about right. Machining can be less expensive than rapid prototyping depending on size and complexity. Be happy that you are getting the real thing for less than the cost of a prototype Smile

With a minimal amount of tutorial time I was able to design a bracket and look at the 3D version which allowed me to see a potential problem with the design. You folks are definitely one of the most valuable sites I ..."
