I am trying to make a jig fixture that has the basic shape of a five-sided box. The material is to be 0.25" thick.

I cannot figure out how to specify "weld" for this device. The rudamentry directions seem to imply that all the sides should be cut individually and then welded together, but the system only shows the multiple parts in top view. Only one part is shown in front view. The 3D rendering shows the parts as all being flat individual components.

Building the box as a true 3D item, I cannot figure out where the joint lines are specified. Everything I have tried has generated faults.

3D preview does not show welding. Please follow Line | Machine | Weld instructions to add weld joints to the parts in your design.

As I said in my initial post, the instructions are rudimentary (at best) and I cannot figure them out.

Do you have something of more value, such as an example?

I guess I'm not making myself clear. I've read the instructions (repeatedly).

Perhaps it is better to start with very specific questions. First off, how do you draw the two (or more) parts that you want to join? Is this done in 2D or 3D?

I guess I could assume from that that welded parts can not be drawn in 3D?

You can weld 2D or 3D parts. You can involve multiple .ems files in a weld spec.

Hi Mr Tech:
I have the same problem. I cannot figure out how to use the CAD to specify welding two plates together as two faces of a box.
(1) How do I specify my design w/ the CAD software?
(2) How do I visually checks its validity if the thing does not show in 3D?
(3) How to I get an automatic pricing?
Your previous answers to Chris Johnson's queries are too cryptic to help, the links you gave not any better.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks

1) There is extensive help on use of the CAD software at Online Help.

2) The 3D viewer does not currently have the capability to rearrange mutliple parts in space.

3) To get automatic pricing select Job | Price.

I will be pleased to clarify anything further if still not clear.

Download CAD Software

"I am not very well versed in utilizing CAD programs but I found your site and information to be the best that I have seen so far. With a minimal amount of tutorial time I was able to design a bracket and look at the 3D version which allowed me to see a potential problem with the design. You folks are definitely one of the most valuable sites I ..."
