90 Degree Rotation

In the video tutorial, it tells you to use the RL keys to rotate. When I use those keys, I get rotation, however, it does not rotate to 90 degrees. If I draw a perfectly horizontal rectangle and then try and rotate it, it will want to rotate it 45 degrees. If I hit the R or L key again, it will rotate it another 90 degrees and then if I hit it again, it will rotate it another 45 degrees. Making the object rotate 180 degrees. However, if I want a 90 degree rotation, this cannot be done with my RL keys. Ideas on where I'm going wrong? Thanks for the help in advance.
