I am trying to create a "one piece part" out of round stock so; I create a circle and Z it to give it depth. On one end of the round stock, I want to lathe it down to approximately 1/3 the size of the original round stock so; I put a circle in the middle of the round stock and give it Z so that it protrudes. On top of the smaller protruding section, I put a rectangle that is larger than the smaller protruding part but not larger than the original round stock. I think therein lies my problem. When I 3D view it, the program automatically switches the location of the rectangle section with the location of the smaller protruding section. In other words, the rectangle section and the smaller protruding section reverse location. Is this because the rectangle section is larger than the smaller protruding section? What do I need to do to create this part? Attached is a simple drawing. Thank You.

You need to combine Revolve line in Front view with cutouts from Top. See attached example.

Yes- you can edit the cutouts forming the square section.
