AUTO is not informative -need suggestions for a couple parts

I'm a new user struggling with the auto feature. The two small parts I'm trying to reproduce require some kind of stamping/blanking or metal drawing process; the part on the left has a large crack on the bottom. I can easily create the geometry with emachine's software, but the quotes I'm receiving are much too high for the quantities I need. I feel the software is trying to do too much and fails to communicate with the user --what manufacturing process is the auto feature employing? How can one optimize or even effectively communicate a design without specifying the machine? Is there a drawing technique or knowledge resource that someone could point me to for components like these?
