Tue May 11, 2010 11:00 pm rolling aluminum 6061 |
|

|
I want to use aluminum 6061 T 6 for a project that will be about 8 inches long 5 inches tall
and about 3/8 inch thick. This is a motorcycle license plate frame. Along with the rest of the design,it needs to have an arc in it. In other words if it were laying on a table, the long ways ends would curve up to about 1 inch off the table.
My question is can 6061 be rolled into this form ? I like this material because it will buff to a brite shine.
Thanks

6061 can bend to a radius of about 2 to 4 times thickness before cracking.

Thanks for the reply.Well that leaves out 6061,cause the thinist area around the window woud be between 1/16 th to 1/8 th thick. Will have to re think the material.
What are your recomendations, less expensive the better, maybe chrome plate.
Thanks

OK the price is right on 5052.Almost through with the CAD.
Can you roll this .I dont see a machine that would do this.Or is it the bend machine ?
If it is how would I use it for this application ?
Thanks

You can get close to the same effect with multiple parallel bends.

I tried the multiple bends using 13 @ 5 degrees and it looks close but the 3D view I get is segmented and when I try for a cost it says 5 machines reporting incompatibility and consider limiting material thickness to.250 . My thickness needs to be .344
Can I still roll this to get the arc I need ?
Thanks

No, we support bending of sheet up to 1/4 only. We missed that you specified the part thickness as 3/8 in original post.

OK Well that's the thickness i need
I Would like to order 10 or 12 of these. Flat I guess.
Once I received them from you,
Do you have any recommendations how to get the arc
I need from a local shop using this type of aluminum
Thanks.

Generally 2D shapes are bent or rolled. You have more of a 3D shape. The job is not suited for us.
