Hole depth

Sad I've been down this road before, years ago. I was HOPING eMachineShop had finally fixed this problem with the new program, so I downloaded it and tried yet again...hoping that this time I could control the depth of a threaded hole...doesn't seem like much to ask, no?

Hope springs eternal. Only to be crushed, once again.

It all sounds so easy....set the Z-axis height or go to Line/Machine/Auto and set the height.

Not to be. I made my larger part, I drilled a hole into it, I tapped it for an M4 thread...but eMachineShop insists on making the hole go all the way through.

In the Z-Axis box, the only choices I get are air inside or air outside. Like that's any help.

It doesn't matter whether I view it from the Top or from the side; I never get a window that allows me to set Z-axis height or line (axis) length.

Yeah, I searched Help and I searched this forum. I saw that some other poor fool a year or so again asked the same question and got the same (predictable and ineffective) reply.

Now, maybe, just maybe, I'm missing something and all of this whining on my part is due to my own stupidity. I frankly admit it wouldn't be the first time I was the problem. If so, I would really appreciate someone telling me what the #&*%#@!!-ing mistake it is I'm making.

Hey, cheers!! have a great day! Very Happy

Best, Charlie

PS: I uploaded the file so you can see whatever is the dumb mistake I'm making. It's the larger hole lower down, threaded for M4, that intersects the perpendicular hole from on Top.

this is the part where I cannot figure out how to control the depth of the M4 threaded hole, seen from the Left Side.

Sheez, it turns out the way to change a setting in the Z-Axis is to FORCE IT.

When I would select the threaded hole from it's beginning - the Left Side, in this case - the Z-Axis would only give me the option of "air inside" or "air outside".

Which was not helpful.

What I did not realize at first was that I should just ignore what was in the box, delete it, and write in what I d*d pleased!!!!!!. Evil or Very Mad

Criminey, you guys at eMachineShop, for $*#@!!! sake, you make things so
hard by just not telling the user the little details like that.

How the bloody Evil or Very Mad am I supposed to know I can just ignore what you put in the window? Evil or Very Mad

So, if you want to improve your product - and I have to believe you're losing business over silly things like this - either TELL THE USER they can just write
right over what's in the Z-Axis window (things like "air inside") - or give them a drop-down option that says "here's where you can type in the bloody depth of the bloody threaded hole, mate".

There, now I feel sooooooo much better. Very Happy

Onwards!!

Best, Charlie

This type of interface is called a "combo box" and is a common Windows interface:
Combo Box
Nevertheless if anyone has a suggestion for how to make the interface clearer feel free to post.
