Surface Roughness

Hi all

I designed a part made of Aluminum 6061. In "Job - Settings", users are able to specify the surface roughness.
What happens, when I check 0.8 microns? Does eMachineShop polish the parts automatically to get this surface roughness or not?

Two more questions:

1) Is there any difference when I'm using Acetal Black?
2) Is there any difference when the parts are drawn as a revolve part?

Thanks for reply!

Regards,
Leander

For example these two files. One is made of Aluminum, one Acetal Black.

By the way: The part made of Acetal Black seems to be veeeery expensive. Is it possible to draw it in another way and get it cheaper?

$13 for the Acetal part sounds about right to me. You drew it properly. When you check 0.8 micron, the machinest uses whatever method it takes to get to that finish. But I think you are confusing 0.8 micron and 0.8 microinch. The former is not a polish finish. You can select polish in Job | Settings.

Where should I activate "polish"? I couldn't find it in "Job - Settings". I only found some finish functions in "Job - Finishing", but "Polish" seems to be only for steel sheets.

Or should I just select 0.8 microinches in "Job - Settings"?

We support polishing of plastics only via injection molding but that is not economical if your quantity is small.

Well, I need parts made of Aluminum and Acetal. However, I will select 0.8 microinches.

You can use Job | Finishing | Polish for aluminum and most metals.

Hm, no matter which Aluminum I choose, I can't select polish finish.

You need to choose Job | Finishing | Mechanical - Buff Polish Satin or Mirror.

"I received my 3D CNC machined adapters today. They were spot-on with the design and drawing. I would have rather had them done at my Brother-in-law's shop but even he was impressed with the simplicity and ease that eMachineShop gets the job done. He was skeptical that they could be done so economically. Thanks, we will see how fast the demand gets ..."
