Sun Feb 15, 2009 1:12 pm Which machine for rod stock?
I am interested in making a part that is very very simple and made from 3/8" diameter steel rod stock. I have been making them myself by hand for some time, but it's just too time-consuming, and I could really benefit from ordering like a 50 at a time.
So the 3/8" rod is sawn into 3/8" long pieces and then a 10-32 thread hole is drilled into the sidewall. That's it. I think I know how to draw it in EMS, but I don't have any idea which machine to choose. I would suppose a chop saw and drill press, but I don't recall even seeing rod stock on the materials list.

Use Lathe machine and specify drilled threaded hole in side view using Comments to Machinist. We plan to offer full support of simple Drill in next release.
Software considers usage of rod stock where it is possible automatically.

"I received my order and have to say that I am very impressed. The part looks exactly like it did on my computer screen. I will definitely be using eMachineShop again for any future projects. "
