How to make a bike wheel?

sorry, I am really new here. I am trying to make a bike model, but I don't know how to make bike model wheels.

Also it's really frustrating how to put the different component together (with depth), which I can't do it in top view?! Whenever I try to put to componets together, they just merged to one, I just want them overlapped, but not merged to one.

I wonder is the front view, side view really useful? It's not like 3D Max can have different view windows...
