automatic transmission clutch drum

I'm working on a fairly complex project, with several parts. I want to start with the clutch drums, they are fairly complex parts, with multiple snap ring grooves, lip seal grooves, stepped holes, recesses, splined holes, and grooves.

I'm trying to figure out what order to add each feature in. I started by drawing the over all shape of the part, a cylinder 5.875" diameter, and 2.375" tall. I think the next step would be to add the recess in one side, and then the splined hole. Is this correct?

Is this a project that should be approached with this software?

If it helps, this part is to be based on a PowerGlide high gear clutch drum, but modified for another apllication. I will actually be making two drums that are similar, based on the PowerGlide drum. The material will be 7075 T6.

It sounds like you are on the right track. But you are probably better off using the Revolve feature.

Thank you for the reply. Almost all of the snap ring, sealing ring, or ring, and lip seal grooves will be on the inside of the drums. The OD of the drums and the reaction carrier will be smooth. The OD of the planetary carrier and the center support will have "lugs" that allow them to be held in place.

With Revolve line you can design features located both on outer and inner sides of the part.
