Fri Nov 20, 2009 9:35 pm Creating L shaped parts |

I'm trying to create a piece of camera equipment and I'm having trouble creating the protruding sides.
I've watched the tutorials and I know how to join intersecting parts, and I have tried.
The problem is when I create a second rectangle, it looks correctly in place in the top view. But when I switch to a front view or right view, it is out of place, and it wont let me adjust the position. It will only allow repositioning in the top view, which is impossible since it needs to be moved in Z space.
I've included a jpg image of what I'm trying to achieve. I quickly painted it in photoshop.

I've also tried using bends instead of trying to merge two blocks, but the hole i need in the center of the base is too close to the bend for it to be safe.

Start with a rectangle 5 x 1.25 with Z ~2. Then add rects with negative Z to remove material where applicable from the Top or Bottom view. But also try the 2D version with bend and post it here - I might be able to give you some ideas, as 2D is lower cost.

That should work fine. There might be a very slight non-flatness at the end of the slot near the bend but it should not be a problem.

fantastic!!!
I didn't think it was submittable because the analyzer said their was a 67% chance of non acceptance of the order.
but a slight bend is ok. thanks!
