Sat Dec 05, 2009 12:24 am UHMW for woodworking template?
Hi everyone,
I've designed a template to be used with a woodworking router, and I'm wondering if it would be possible to use UHMW as a material for this template.
The template has a design in the center which the router and collet would follow. I currently have a prototype of this template made from 3/8 inch thick aluminum. I'd like to know if 1/2 inch think UHMW would be a reasonable subtitute.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

UHMW characteristics look appropriate for your application: it is a very tough material, with the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic presently made. It's also highly resistant to corrosive chemicals. However please check web whether anyone is using UHMW templates for your application.

Thanks Tech3.
I don't see any applications out there, at least not that I can find, like the one I'm proposing here. But I'm not convinced that this means I shouldn't attempt it.
I guess the what I should do is compare the specifications of the two materials, UHMW vs. Aluminum.
