Other than "Comments to Machinist," how do you specify a tapped hole in a 3D shape? Can a thread-forming tap be specified?

Probably you missed menu Line | Machine | Thread?

Yes I did; thanks. I could not find it in the help files or tutorials. I'm sure it's there just couldn't find it.

Do you think you would have found it in Line | Machine if it was named "Tapping"?

BTW - All machines are in the Machines menu, not the CAD help.

Doubtful - to me it being under "Line" is odd; I was looking for some way to modify the hole's properties. I find it odd that this is under the "Machine" menu. If the mill has a tool changer it would be easy to mill the part, drill the hole and tap the hole all on one machine - and that's what was driving my search.

OK, thanks for the info. I'll see if there is some way to clarify the UI.

Thanks - perhaps if it was listed under something like "Operations" or something like that.

To make a tapped hole do I need to put in the hole and then the add a tap from the machine menu in my drawing or do I just leave the surface intact and simply use the machine/tap. In other words, should my drawing show a whole and a tap symbol or just a tap symbol?

Thanks

You need to draw a hole for threading with a primary machine before assigning thread. Please review Threading.

Download CAD Software

"In our company we have used many software packages like Auto Cad, Pro E and Solid Work. I have found all of them very complicated. I tried to use them many times but never succeeded. eMachineShop provided the first time I could get a complete design and provided automatic design analysis. The software is really very helpful. Thanks."
