Mon Jul 12, 2010 2:50 pm Revolve on square bar stock?? |
|
|
|
I am trying to put a turned end on a part that is basically square, the end is being turned to a diameter that is not quite the dimension of the square, i.e. I have a 1" square part, and I am turning off the square area to almost the 1" dimension, about 1.050.
Revolve doesnt seem to work, as it thinks the revolving part is outside the side dimension.
Is there a way to do this with this program??

Thanks, I was thinking I might have to do it this way. I made the mistake of thinking like a machinist, starting with the logical bar stock I would use to make the part, rather than adapting to the quirks of the software......
When you guys actually go to machine this stuff, however, do you start with a large piece of round stock, (as the program implies) or do you actually use whatever bar stock makes sense?

This CAD software does some material optimization but sometimes the machinist will override.

Well, this doesn't work either.....
Here's the problem. You cannot come back and remove material that intersects with the revolve line. It crashes the program.
BTW, a word to the wise for anyone just getting into this program. Make sure as you make a change, to save the file as a new file name. This program is really flaky and makes it's own changes to stuff arbitrarily. Instead of coming back and giving you an error and allowing you to fix it, it just does it's own thing and corrupts the file. You cannot undo many changes, you have to start back from scratch......

So TECH2, is there a workaround with this program to make a square out of a part that it defined as round using the revolve? It crashes and corrupts the whole file every time I try to do this......

It is UI policy for our programmers NOT to make changes to the design without approval from the user - if you have a specific counter example, please describe it. Similarly, if you have a specific design and scenario that leads to a crash or corruption, please post it with steps to reproduce. If you have a specific command that can't be undone, please describe it. Attached is a sample file illustrating a square on a revolve shape.
