CNC Turret Punching
The Turret Punch machine creates shapes in sheet material by successively
punching a series of basic shapes.

Possible shapes
Almost any 2D shape including shaped cutouts.
Special tooling may be needed for inside angles less than 90 deg and slots
less than 0.1" wide.

Example parts
Brackets, enclosures, front panels, assorted mechanisms.

Advantages of CNC Turret Punching
Cost effective in short and long runs.
Specifications for CNC Turret Punching
Material - most
sheet metals.
Alternative machines
- Blanking (for long runs), Laser Cut (for short runs), Mill 3-Axis (for very short runs).
Tooling - CNC Turret
Punching requires software program tooling and
machine tooling setup.

Reducing costs - minimize number of
different round hole sizes, use stock hole sizes,
minimize outside arcs such as rounded
corners. Use chamfered instead of round corners. A laser cut part may be
lower cost when the design has many curves. |
Notes
CNC Turret punching results in
clean sheared edges, often as good as and sometimes
better than laser. Bottom side features may be
a few thousandths of an inch larger than specified. Some edges may show
very minor signs of the successive punching
process (less so on the bottom side).
