Nylon is one of the most common plastics, first produced at DuPont. Two common grades of nylon are Nylon 6 and Nylon 6/6.
Nylon parts are easy to machine, low cost and long lasting. Parts made of the plastic are often used in mechanisms that rotate or slide due its low coefficient of friction. Like most plastics, nylon parts need no surface finish and continue to look good and work well over extended periods. The plastic is resistant to heat and chemicals. It is abrasion resistant and flexible. Nylon is resistance to fungi and animals, molds and mildew.
