Fiberglass
Milled fiberglass mechanical part
Fiberglass
is a synthetic glass based composite material composed of glass fibers which create strength and a matrix that binds the
fibers together. Other substances such as fillers are used to
reduce the cost and improve process ability and dimensional stability. Fiberglass was
first used for home furnace filters and insulation.
Fiberglass Properties
Fiberglass has several unique properties that can be used to advantage in many applications:
- High strength to weight ratio
- Impact resistant
- Fatigue resistant
- Low thermal conductivity
- Low electrical conductivity
