I am in an engineering course at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio. We have recently learned about the rapid prototyping process and I was wondering If there was more information available about the rapid prototyping machine that you use. I am interested in what machine you are using as well as the cost of the machine and also the process rate for this specific machine. Are there any drawbacks to this specific machine?

Thank you for any information

We use FDM (fused deposition modeling) [-- login to view link --] in which a .01" diameter piece of ABS spaghetti so-to-speak comes out of an orifice onto the workpiece under X,Y,Z computer control. The workpiece is thus built up layer by layer. The CNC control saves time by skipping over empty areas. The costs are given by the software when you design a part in the CAD software.

One of the drawbacks is it is not economical for very large pieces. But it has one of the fastest delivery times of our processes.
