"Drilled far edge" warning

I'm creating a simple design for a plastic maul. It's a striking tool for leather stamps. It basically consists of cylinders of different diameters positioned end-to-end. (See the attached images.)

Every time I add another piece, set the diameter and Z, then render, I get the message, "Drilled far edge is not permitted for the protrusion. Set to straight automatically?" I say yes in each case, or the part does not get rendered. But I have no clue what it's saying is the problem. Can someone explain what is happening there?

Also, I want to add a knob at the end of the handle, but every time I make a circle with a larger diameter than the handle, the program puts it between the head and the handle, instead of at the end of the handle where I want it. How can I get my handle knob to go where I want it?
