I am considering having emachineshop make some key blanks that are not made any more. My question is what is the best material for key blanks? It has to be strong enough to use regularly, but weak enough to be cut by a standard key machine. This may mot really be cost effective, but I am considering it.

Brass is a common material for keys although a variety of other materials are sometimes used.

Any suggestions for saving money on this design of a key blank? I have no other way of getting key blanks for my locks, unless I just change my locks. The locks are too old.
