Hi, I am hoping you can help, I am designing a aluminum hub for a roller skate wheel where a bearing known as a 697 will seat into the hub.

Bearing size is: id 7mm x od 17mm x w 5mm
the bearing can be seen here: http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/Kit7476

My problem is I wish to have the bearing fit perfectly just by pressing them in by hand. I do not want to use a bearing press.

As there are many different componies making bearings, and most specifiy the tolerance simply as 7x17x5mm, How do I convey this "Press Fit" request in comments to the machinist?

I do not know exactly what the tolerance needs to be? Can I send a bearing over for you to measure? I am guessing this is a common question?

I wish to be concise in relaying this infomation but fear all I could write in the comment would be. " Please make a 697 size bearing press fit by hand in this bearing seat." Very Happy

Not very concise I fear.

Please advise.

Thanks

It's better if you can measure the bearing and provide a tolerance. Engineering books have tables and formula for fits (or you can use our design service - see the web site). You could send it in and we can measure for you.
